Miss Barb's is a neighborhood spot on Nostrand Avenue in Brooklyn that smoothly shifts between a cozy café by day and a relaxed wine bar by night. Its dual identity makes it a favorite for locals who want a low-key place to either kickstart the morning with a solid coffee or unwind after work with a glass of wine and thoughtfully curated canned beers.

During daylight hours, Miss Barb's draws in a mix of regulars looking for quality coffee without any pretense. The atmosphere leans into a quaint, unhurried vibe that fits perfectly into the laid-back rhythms of Crown Heights. It's the kind of place where you might nestle into a corner with your laptop or catch up with a friend over well-crafted espresso options. Though outdoor seating details aren’t prominent, the indoor space feels intimate and welcoming—friendly enough that the owners and their family often circulate, adding to the local feel.

When the sun sets, Miss Barb's turns into a quietly vibrant wine bar. The evening crowd is drawn to the rotating wine list that promises something different on every visit, with the added bonus of various community events that keep the calendar lively without overwhelming the space. The music choices and the approachable vibe make it a spot to linger over a few drinks rather than rush through a night out. The bar offers a solid canned beer selection, though some visitors note the absence of beer on tap.

This spot works well for folks who appreciate a flexible neighborhood hangout—whether you're after a focused coffee break or a mellow post-work cocktail. Its welcoming staff, including family members behind the bar, contribute to a sincere sense of community rather than a commercial atmosphere.

  • Best for: Daytime coffee drinkers seeking a calm, unpretentious cafe and evening guests looking for a casual wine bar with an evolving selection.
  • Who will enjoy it most: Local residents, creative types, and anyone wanting a small, quiet spot off the beaten path.
  • Best time to visit: Mid-morning for coffee or early evening for a laid-back drink and some mellow tunes.
  • Atmosphere: Intimate, cozy, with relaxed, friendly service that makes the place feel more like a neighbor’s living room than a commercial venue.

Quaint and chill vibe here with a well rounded coffee menu. The fabulous photo of Miss Barb was my second favorite after the service.

Great little spot…cozy atmosphere and friendly and welcoming bar tender (Miss Barb’s son). It’s a coffee shop by day that transforms into a bar in the evening, which was a pleasant surprise. I wish they had beer on tap, but the selection of canned beers is solid. I’ll definitely be coming back. Also great vibes and music.

Overall rating: 4.6 This place popped up on my FYP for a good night out in the neighborhood. Rather than a late night I activity, I went for an after work drink spot. I didn’t realize it was also a coffee spot. Def want to come back during the day. The spot is nice but it wasn’t what I was expecting. I did go early. But it was very surprised there wasn’t any happy hour. It was a lot more mellow than I was expecting and with the very little people there, the music was so loud. Tried the beef patty too & it was alright. Def needed an accompanying sauce. The staff was very friendly but not sure if I’d go again. Doesn’t seem like the place for me.

This coffee shop has become so much more than just a spot for caffeine it’s a cornerstone of the community. Brandon and Shay, the owners, have cultivated a warm, inclusive environment that offers far more than just space, WiFi, and wine. It’s a place where I’ve learned to play spades, shared collaborative ideas, and enjoyed memorable wine tastings. From the delicious mochas to the perfectly baked cheddar biscuits, every visit feels like a treat. But it’s the atmosphere the intentional community and genuine kindness that keeps me coming back. This business is my favorite example of what it means to “have it all” right in the heart of the neighborhood. Thank you, Brandon and Shay, for creating more than a coffee shop. You’ve built a third space that feels like home

Huge fan of Miss Barb's here! Their coffees are fab and the couple of baristas who I usually see are super friendly and funny. Have only interacted with the owners a couple times but they seem like really good people who care about our community. No shade to the chain coffee places, but Miss Barb's is my spot. Shop local! Love yall.

Good vibes. There’s plenty of people sitting and working, even taking video calls. There’s some outlets in the back. The barista sets the tone and runs the shop. There was only one staff member when I was there on a Thursday morning and she held it down. At first, I didn’t like my Matcha latte because I thought it was too much Matcha powder, but I stirred it up and I was like ‘you know what that’s actually pretty good.’ I drank my drink on the couch, people watched for a bit and went on about my day. great little spot. Only con, there’s no food, just pastries.
